Oren Moverman
Oren Moverman (born July 4, 1966) is an Israeli filmmaker, screenwriter, and former journalist based in New York City. Moverman was the screenwriter and associate producer of Jesus' Son, a 2000 Lion’s Gate/Alliance Release. Directed by Alison Maclean, the film stars Billy Crudup, Samantha Morton, Jack Black, Holly Hunter & Dennis Hopper. Moverman served as screenwriter of Face, starring Bai Ling, Treach and Kristy Wu. Directed by Bertha Bay-Sa Pan, Face premiered in competition at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. Moverman also collaborated with Ira Sachs on Married Life, a Sony Pictures Classics release, starring Rachel McAdams, Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan and Patricia Clarkson. He co-wrote Todd Haynes' Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, starring Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Michelle Williams, Julianne Moore and Charlotte Gainsbourg. The Messenger, Moverman’s first film as a director, co-written with Alessandro Camon and starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson and Samantha Morton, premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. It had its international premiere at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival where it was awarded the Silver Bear for best screenplay and the Peace Award. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe and two Oscars, including a Best Original Screenplay nomination for Moverman and Camon. Moverman has reportedly been in negotiations with Universal Studios to re-write and direct the studio's planned Kurt Cobain biopic. Originally scripted by David Benioff, and partially based on the biography Heavier Than Heaven by Charles R. Cross, the untitled film will be executive produced by Courtney Love and her lawyer, Howard Weitzman.
