한스 크리스티안 안데르센의 동화 눈의 여왕을 원작으로 하는 일본의 TV 애니메이션. NHK에서 제작 지원. 2005년 방영. 감독은 데자키 오사무. 데자키 감독 말로는 눈의 여왕만 하면 분량이 짧아서 세계관을 눈의 여왕을 바탕으로 전체적인 스토리를 짜고 그 안에 안데르센이 지은 다른 동화의 이야기를 넣어서 만들었다고 한다. 예로 성냥팔이 소녀 에피소드도 나온다. 원래대로 라면 39화로 예정되어 있었으나 전 36화 완결. 한국 더빙판에서는 총집편인 20화 '카이에게 보내는 편지'가 제외되어 35화로 완결됐다. 한국에선 대원방송을 통해 방영되었으며 2006년도에 더빙. 김정령 PD의 초기 연출작. 나름대로 화려한 성우진 덕분에 올드팬들에게 많은 관심을 받았으나 당시 경력이 얼마 안 된 터인지 군데군데 아쉬운 부분이 엿보인다.
